In Bahia Solano there are many dogs and cats, some are loved, others not so much, but we have in our hands the ability to change the reality of these animals and improve their lives and the whole community.

Who are we?

We are a nonprofit for animals in Colombia that, since 2003, has been working to raise awareness about the different problems faced by other animals and to help communities to coexist harmoniously and peacefully with them.

We work on rural and remote communities without government support for animal care. In these places we provide FREE veterinary care with emphasis on sterilization, in order to reduce abandonment and help communities avoid all the problems caused by dog and cat overpopulation, as well as strengthen the bond between people and dogs and cats, to build more harmonious places. We also take care of horses and donkeys in our mobile clinics.

What are we going to do?

RAYA team will travel to Bahia Solano in Chocó, Colombia to sterilize and provide FREE OF CHARGE veterinary care to the dogs and cats of the towns of El Valle and Huina. Our main goal is to control the animal population and to avoid all the negative impacts that come with uncontrolled reproduction: Abandonment and mistreatment, coexistence problems, environmental pollution, wildlife predation, public health problems etc.

We specialize in itinerant veterinary clinics with an emphasis on High Quality High Volume Spay and Neuter (HQHVSN). Our project is aimed to provide a service with high quality standards, designed to amplify our impact and reduce the adverse effects generated from medical complications, environmental pollution, etc.

Why are we doing this?

We love animals and we want them to live happily and to be loved, but sadly that is not yet a reality in Colombia. Many stray dogs and cats are abused, killed and some of them will never find a home. Their lives are usually very difficult as they have to put up with hunger, thirst, disease, human indifference and to make matters worse, they keep on reproducing, perpetuating the vicious cycle.

We believe that prevention is the way forward and that by sterilizing we prevent thousands and thousands of animals from being born to abuse and suffering. We know that like us, you care for animals and that’s why we are sure that you will love to be part of this campaign.

Where exactly is Bahía Solano?

Bahía Solano is a municipality of Chocó established since 1962 that has a land area of 1,667 km² and an average temperature of 25 °C. Almost 9500 people live in Bahía Solano according to the DANE census of 2018.

Its townships are El Valle, Huina, Bahía Cupica, Nabugá, Huaca, and Mecana and we will focus our efforts on the first two. Our objective is to spay and neuter more than 70% of the animals in these two communities to maximize the impact and temporarily stabilize the populations (this type of intervention should be periodic).
